Black Walnut Crop Update: October 17, 2023

Category Uncategorized | Posted October 18, 2023

The Black Walnut Harvest is really “picking up”!

The first two weeks of the season were a little slow, as wild nuts stayed on trees
throughout much of the Midwest harvest area. Still, several operators reported good
activity, especially over the weekend. And with nuts now beginning to fall, we expect
that activity to increase in the next couple of weeks.

Through Oct. 16, over 2 million pounds have been brought in. Much of the early
harvest (45%) has come from the Eastern states. We still expect 13-16 million pounds
from this year’s harvest, which continues into early November.
We hope and pray that the weather cooperates so folks can get out, enjoy some
healthy fall air, and be part of this fall tradition!
