With just a few days left, the Black Walnut Harvest is winding down. We have 215 hulling stations in 11 states continuing to buy the wild crop through this Monday, November 2. The harvest has been a little shorter than expected, so we’re hoping for nice weather this weekend. We’re also still hopeful that the total harvest reaches at least 10 million pounds.
Activity has continued to be slow in Missouri and the western part of the buying area, but Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan states still report robust activity. In fact, many of them plan to continue buying for another week or more, even into mid-November – as long as people keep bringing in nuts.
The price this year remains at the all-time high of $14 per hundred pounds (after hulling).
